Roller skating is already a blast, but with a few clever tricks, you can make your time on wheels even smoother, comfier, and more stylish. We’re all about helping our skaters roll their best.
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, these skate hacks will take your skating game to the next level.
Hack #1: Master The Lacing Tricks
Did you know the way you lace your skates can totally change how they feel? For more ankle support, try the lock lacing technique (loop your laces back around the top hooks before tying). It’ll give you more stability, perfect for beginners or anyone practicing new moves. For a looser, more flexible fit, skip every other eyelet toward the top to give your ankles extra movement.
Hack #2: DIY Skate Decorations
Want to show off your personality? Decorate your skates! Add colorful laces, themed charms, or even small decals to give your boots a one-of-a-kind look. Moxi-style pom-poms or light-up wheels are an instant mood booster on the rink. Just make sure anything you add doesn’t interfere with your wheels or toe stops.
Hack #3: Breaking In Your Skates Without The Blisters
New skates are exciting, but they can be stiff. To break them in faster (and save your feet), wear thick socks and skate for short sessions before going full-out. You can also gently flex and roll the boots with your hands to soften them up. Some skaters even wear their new boots around the house to help them mold to their feet.
Hack #4: Keep Your Wheels and Bearings Happy
This one’s not glamorous, but it’s a lifesaver. Clean your bearings regularly and rotate your wheels every few sessions to prevent uneven wear. A little TLC keeps your ride smooth and your skates lasting longer.
